Out to Lunch

Los Angeles is famous for all things culinary. There are countless restaurants offering up delectable dishes with cuisine inspirations ranging from Mexican to Vietnamese. While these awesome eateries are great spots to explore on weekends, Claremont offers just as much variety for every day meals.

To my delight, food is a pretty big deal here. Students are excited to go to the dining halls or into the Village to grab a meal—the food is just that good. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a sit down meal, Claremont can meet your needs (and it’s always better if you bring a buddy!).

When the weather is warm (aka 95% of the time) my friends and I like to hit up Petiscos. Its outdoor patio seating provides the perfect setting for an affordable and delicious lunch that inevitably includes their chips and free guac.

An equally popular spot is Daddy Ji’s. You’re bound to see classmates out to dinner with their friends, sponsor groups, or clubs. See below for a pic from a Mock Trial team bonding dinner! With a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options, Daddy Ji’s is the perfect place for family style sharing of biryani, dhai puri, naan and so much more from their extensive menu.

While I wholeheartedly love eating out in the Village, the dining halls are an equally attractive option—especially when they host annual events. Outside of regular specials like birria ramen and gyros, Frank and Frary offer a wide variety of culinary experiences open to all students. Most recently, I ate at Farm to Frank which combines a free market of local produce and an elevated menu selection including truffle mac and cheese, charred octopus, and decadent chocolate cake (to name just a few of my favorite bites!). Students who use flex to swipe into the dining hall are given tote bags to shop around before sitting down for dinner. I couldn’t be more excited that my room is now stocked with a huge assortment of (free) fruits and veggies!

Here in Claremont, food and community go hand in hand. Whether you stay on campus or venture into the village, you are bound to have an enjoyable meal experience—especially when your friends and peers are just as excited to try all that Claremont and the 5Cs have to offer.
